Take Off Your Blindfold

 
 

I think it's human nature to want to avoid conflict, and one of the ways that I see people avoid conflict, and I even catch myself doing this, is to pretend not to notice things in your business.

 

Noticing them, or acknowledging them, is pushing you outside of your comfort zone to take action to make it better. What happens in a small business is that these things start to pile up.

 

For Example:

  • A team member that you need to have a difficult conversation with

  • It's time to look at adding an associate to your practice

  • Your equipment isn't serving you well, but you’re a little nervous about the cost

 

Whatever the issue is that you're pretending not to notice in your business, if that stacks up, it can create overwhelm in your practice.

 

Doctors: I recommend that you make a list of the things that are overwhelming you or that you’re not acknowledging in your practice. Really be honest about this list and tackle them one thing at a time.

 

There may be some of those items that you need help with, and if so, talk to either a consultant or an advisor or even a colleague. Be open and tell them, “This is an area where I’m struggling and I have noticed that I'm avoiding dealing with this issue.” Get help and get unstuck!

 

Pretending not to notice will only cause the issues to get bigger and create blocks in your business.
