Keeping Team Members Motivated

Today I want to give you a tip on how to keep your team members motivated:

Show Them Appreciation!

I recommend a book by Gary Chapman entitled, The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace.

This book taught me that not everyone has the same language when it comes to showing and receiving appreciation. I recommend that you learn what the appreciation language is for each of your team members, and then show appreciation in a way they will receive it.

The 5 Languages of Appreciation are:

  1. Words of Affirmation

  2. Quality Time

  3. Acts of Service

  4. Gifts

  5. Physical Touch

The book has an assessment that makes it easy to learn about your team and how they feel appreciated. You can find this assessment at http://www.appreciationatwork.com/assess

Some doctors tell me they are frustrated because their team feels under appreciated even though the doctor has been giving them bonuses on a regular basis. If gifts or money isn't a language of appreciation the team understands, they need something different such as words of affirmation!

I challenge you to take the time to learn this about your team. Show them appreciation in a language they can receive and watch your team feel more motivated than you've ever seen in the past!
