Do You Know Where You're Going?

I love the quote by Simon Sinek, "People don't buy what you do, they buy why you do it."

I think that's so important for dental practices to realize. Patients aren't buying root canals and crowns and cleanings from your practice. They are purchasing your belief behind recommending those things.

One of the things I help practices do is develop their Purpose Statement which is really a statement of their why. It's important that every practice has a Purpose Statement because they need something to measure their what against to say:

  • Does this really support our why?

  • Does this support what we really want to accomplish and achieve in terms of making our patients healthier?

I was visiting a client a few weeks ago, Dr. Norman Medina at Seasons of Smiles in Camden, Maine, and I LOVE their practice's Purpose Statement! It's simple but it really reflects what they are doing every single day.

Their Purpose Statement:

“We develop relationships in our community to create health and transformation.”

Any time we put a new system in place in the practice, we really make sure that it supports this Purpose Statement.

  • Is this helping strengthen relationships?

  • Is this helping move patients closer to health?

  • Is this helping create a transformation in someone's life?

When you have your purpose in mind, when you design new systems or protocols or goals in your practice, you're always working toward the bigger why and your patients can feel that. They can sense that and it encourages and inspires them to move forward with the treatment they need to get healthy.

If you haven't taken the time to think about what your Purpose Statement is, or your big why in your practice, this is something that can really set you up for success for the new year.
