Doctors: Have you ever struggled over whether you should keep a team member or let them go?

I know this is hard and so many of my clients have had this struggle in their practices. I've had this struggle in my own business.

Being a small business owner can be challenging when you're making these types of decisions and you don't always have someone to bounce ideas off of or to help you make the decision.

Putting in place in your practice a set of core values that are really non-negotiable when it comes to sharing those beliefs in order to be on your team, is tremendously helpful in making these decisions.

Your Core Values:

  • Are non-negotiable.

  • Are statements that if someone doesn’t have the same belief on them, they don’t have a place in your practice.

  • Simplify the decision-making process on whether a team member should be a part of your team and your practice.

When I look at any time I've had to make a change on my own team, I can find a core value where there was not alignment with that person.

Every practices’ core values will be different, because they are a reflection of you, the business owner, and what beliefs are important for the team to share. That will really guide your practice.

Some Key Core Values in My Business:

  • We value and appreciate our clients.

  • We have an attitude of service and appreciation not only to our clients, but to each other.

In my business, these are non-negotiables!

This should give you a better idea of non-negotiables and how to create core values for your practice. I suggest having somewhere between three and five core values. This will really help guide your decisions on team members in your practice in the future.
