Do You Know What Your Practice Numbers Are Telling You?

Practice Numbers......the statistics or key benchmarks that measure your practice.

Many practices I talk to either aren't looking at these numbers or they are, but aren't sure what to do with that information. I've also found that some dentists are comfortable sharing this information with their team and other are not.

I want to give you a few tips on being successful with your practice numbers:

  1. Share many of the benchmarks and statistics with your team. It's important for the team to understand how their role affects the overall success of the practice.

  2. Look at the numbers you are reporting in team meetings and make a list of what systems are tied to those numbers. For example; If you are tracking open time on the dr's schedule, what system is in place to keep the schedule full? It could be case acceptance or how you use your ASAP list. Think about all the systems in the practice that are tied to the numbers you are looking at.

  3. Narrow the list down to the systems you want to focus on improving.

It's important any time you are looking at numbers that you:

  • tie them to a system

  • have a clear action plan if you want those numbers to improve

Many offices get stuck talking about numbers and then guessing on why they are high or low. However, when you look at each system tied to each measurement, you can drill a little deeper to see if there is something you are currently doing that can be improved upon.
