Want a Superstar Treatment Coordinator? Try this......

When I worked in a dental practice as a treatment coordinator, one of the things that made me successful is that I was fortunate enough to work for dentists who were excited about the dentistry they were providing to their patients.

They would share with me certain cases formally in a team meeting or an informal, “Hey Kristin, come look at this!” They might share something such as showing me what was under an old silver filling they had removed.

I would look at it and be surprised, because I spent most of my time on the business team and not in a clinical setting. I was fascinated by some of the clinical things I learned by the doctor simply taking time to share those with me.

As a treatment coordinator, what do you think happened the next time I presented treatment to a patient that had an old silver filling the doctor had recommended replacing? I instantly remembered what I saw under an old silver filling in a previous patient.

This really helped me get behind the dentistry I was presenting to the patient and be more aligned with the dentist.

One of the things I recommend to my clients is that they pick a case each week or each month that they share with their team. Show what it looked like before and why you recommended they get the treatment, then show mid-treatment and the end result.

This will help your team to really understand the benefit you are providing your patients, and help them align with your purpose of helping patients be healthier.

This allows your team to be more successful when they are communicating needs to patients.

Have you tried this in your practice? If so, tell me about it in the comments below!
