One Thing Successful Practices Have in Common
I am fortunate to have the opportunity to work with some high performing teams who have created amazing results for their practices. As I reflected on my experience with these teams over the past 12 months, I found myself asking: “What is the one thing that is the difference between a team that creates extraordinary results compared to a practice that may be getting average results?”
The common denominator I see in each of these practices is a higher purpose other than making money in the practice. The specific purpose encompasses many different reasons. Some of my clients purposes include: creating healthy patients/ creating beautiful smiles; and taking the fear out of dentistry; but there are many others.
The best thing about being purpose-driven is when you really embody this in every aspect of your practice, the financial rewards just happen. When you are 100% committed to patient health, or enhancing smiles, or your specific purpose, and your team is on board with that purpose, it is amazing what you and your team can accomplish in a very short period of time.
My homework assignment for you today is to really think about what your practice’s purpose is. Try to describe your practice’s purpose in no more than one or two sentences. Things to think about are:
What is your big WHY?
Why do you come to work every day?
How do you want to help people?
Get clear on your purpose, and then introduce it to your team. Lastly, as a team, look for ways to keep the practice purpose top of mind throughout your day.
